Bookbug is Kalamazoo’s only independent children’s bookstore!

Kalamazoo is a vibrant and diverse community that values education, art, creativity, and fun in its own very meaningful and groundbreaking ways. As home to some of Michigan's best academic and cultural institutions and (in our humble opinion) some of its most creative and smart kids, we think it deserves a great children's bookstore. With this in mind, we opened Bookbug in 2008, supported by hundreds of parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians, and kids themselves who told us they wanted to shop for great books in an environment created just for them.

So here we are, two Kalamazoo moms and a dad (as well as, behind the scenes, another dad, 4 kids, several cats and a dog) with a goal to provide as many great books to as many great kids as we can. Believing not only in the magic of a good book, but also in the notion that every good book is an experience in its own right, we try our hardest to ensure that Kalamazoo’s young readers—even the most reluctant ones—leave the store with adventures and happy memories.
